This marks a lot of todo's where I think there's core stuff being mangled
on the interface - we should remove this from the interface to make
testing and maintenability easier.

Instead of unconditionally creating the object at program start let's
create it the first time we need it. That should avoid adding more and
more delays at program start (not to mention the usually unnecessary
memory use).

This patch adds a check for updates feature.
It connects to http://subsurface.hohndel.org/updatecheck.html to check for
any new versions. It then prompts the user with a download link if an
update is available.

- add worldmap-save.c that writes the html to the file
- use Google maps v3 API to put the place marks on the map
- add worldmap-options.h to contain some settings for the JS which will
make it easier for those to be changed

Some users have requested a way to build subsurface without marble.
This hides all traces in the ui and creates a GlobeGPS-dummy thats
just a QLabel saying that marble is disabled, in case its shown
somehow. The dummy is there so we can just ignore the fact that marble
is disabled in the rest of the code.

We didn't care about system default fonts and sizes, we just used the Qt
default font.
Due to how QFont is constructed, there was need to split font and font

This makes the git object save logic also check out the changes in the
working tree and index if the branch we save to is checked out. It used
to be that we would just update the object store (and the branch ref, of
course), but leave any checked-out state untouched.
Note that if the working directory is dirty (ie you have made changes by
hand and not committed them), the checkout will skip any dirty files and
report it as a warning to the user. However, the save still succeeds
(since the _real_ save goes to the backing store).
NOTE NOTE NOTE! Both loading and saving very fundamentally work on the
git object store level, and if you are working with a checked-out branch
and make modifications to the working tree, saving will not touch those
dirty files (so that you can try to recover your edits manually in the
working tree), but it's worth pointing out that subsufrace loading state
will totally ignore the working tree.
So the only way to make subsurface *see* your changes is to commit them.
Having edited state checked out in the working tree will only confuse
you when subsurface first ignores it on reading, and then refuses to
touch the checked-out state on writing.
Put another way: working with a checked-out branch is now _possible_,
but you need to be aware of the limitations.

The selection logic was a bit random: some places would return NULL if
the dive computer index was out of range, others would return the
primary dive computer, and actually moving between dive computers would
just blindly increment and decrement the number.
This always selects the primary computer if the index is out of bounds,
and makes sure we stay in bound when switching beteen dive computers
(but switching between dives can then turn an in-bound number into an
out-of-bounds one)

The "report_error()" interface is a lot simpler, although some of the
C++ code uses QStrings which make them a bit annoying, especially for
the varargs model. Still, even with the explicit conversion to UTF8 and
"char *", the report_error() model is much nicer.
This also just makes refreshDisplay() do the error reporting in the UI
automatically, so a number of error paths don't even have to worry. And
the multi-line model of error reporting means that it all automatically
does the right thing, and reports errors for each file rather than just
for the last file that failed to open.
So this removes closer to a hundred lines of cruft, while being a
simpler interface and doing better error reporting.

This makes the error string just be an internal "membuffer", which the
GUI can fetch and show when errors occur. The error string keeps
accumulating until somebody retrieves it with "get_error_string()".
This should make any write errors actually show up to the user.

This at least avoids marking the dive list as unchanged on a failed
write, and propagates the error further up the stack.
We still don't show the error string in the GUI, though. I'll start

This makes subsurface remember the git source commit of the dive data.
If you save to an existing branch, subsurface will now complain and
refuse to save if you try to save if the existing branch is not related
to the original source. That would destroy the history of the dive
data, which in turn would make it impossible to do sane merging of the
data.
If you save to a new branch, it will see if the previous parent commit
is known in the repository you are saving to, and will save parenthood
information if so. Otherwise it will save it as a new parentless commit
("root commit" in git parlance).

This is a bit tricky because we are using a plain widget for
a window and don't have a class for it (req. more source files).
Also for the table model to update we need to create a new
YearlyStatisticsModel instance each time. At least, in that regard
we can re-create the model each time refreshDisplay() is called.
This patch adds a couple of private variables that are used
to manage the memory of the yearly statistics model and window
and also close that same window on MainWindow::closeEvent().

The animation appeared when the user started subsurface with a default
file, wich was a little annoying since it didn't had a 'from' position
to go and it was also increasing it's size on some window managers
that do subtle windows animations when a program starts. This patch
treats the first dive opened when the program loads with a divelog pa
rameter differently as the following ones storing the velocity value
on a temporary, and reassigning it later.

Once the poster is displayed when there are no dives in the list,
we may also want to disable the QToolButtons (PO2, SAC, etc..),
until a new dive is loaded and the profile is redrawn.

This is useful if we have more non-modal windows and we want
them simply to close with the main one without explicitly
creating class member variables to point to such instances.
A practical example would be the debug window created in
ProfileWidget2() (diveDepthTableView) which holds
the depth profile values.

This patch partially removes the code for the old profile from
Subsurface. It removes the use of the old profile on the mainwindow,
but keeping the code in the tree for now.
A bit of code-cleanup also entered this commit because I had to change
every instance of the code that used the old profile.

Minor change to the perl postprocessing script and resulting changes to
the affected source files.
This deals with two issues:
- "foreach"-like structures were not always treated correctly
- some longer calculations that ended on "+ constant" were reformatted in
a rather unatractive manner
In one source file (divelist.c) I ended up adding braces to the sources...
trying to cascade the indentation further down without having the block
there seemed a lot more trouble than it's worth.

Previous code just set the button-"status" based on what we stored on
the settings. This sets the corresponding value in our prefs-struct.
This fixes the same issue as in 63f7f3, without the side effect of
magically hiding the mean depth line.

This patch makes the 'Zoomed Plot' a preference that can be stored and
retrieved, this way if the user sets the plot to be 'zoomed', this
information will persist even if they closed or opened subsurface again.
Also, added the 'Scale' button on the new profile, but didn't did the glue
code yet.

I had a few very strange bugs regarding to preferences (like clicking on
apply twice so things worked), because the code that moved from
"QSettings" to 'Internal Settings Struct' was being triggered on the
mainwindow, *after* the settingsChanged signal was emmited. This should
fix the problem.

Some dive computers will always download all tanks that they store, not
just the ones used in a dive. Most people only want to see the tanks that
they actually used during the dive (and for the others there's an option
to go back to the old behavior, just in case).
All this is only in memory / during runtime. If the dive computer provided
the extra data we will not throw it away.

We do not need any import dialog when importing normal XML based
divelogs. With this they are imported directly after file selection
dialog. However, when CSV files are detected in the import list, the
configuration dialog is displayed and applied for them. (CSV files are
detected by file extension.)

We were asking the widget.font() which returned the font that the
QFontSelector uses to display it's contents, instead of using
currentFont() that's the correctly selected font. duh. :))

This is not the ideal solution. Ideally we might want to simply enter the
profile edit mode if we edit a dive that was manually added. But right now
the code contains lots of assumptions about being in one mode or the other
and as we are redoing the profile / planner classes for 4.1 anyway, I'd
rather err on the safe side for 4.0.1

If the user edits a dive and then quits we try to ask them to finish
editing, first. If the user did this by either clicking the little 'x'
in the window decoration or by hitting Alt-F4 (or similar), we didn't
have that question (only the 'save changes' question in case the dive list
had already been modified.

setTitle() works with an enum that can be fed different values,
and other we may have eventually. For example not only "app title",
or "app title: filename", but others, like dates, certain app status
and so on.
Patch fixes an issue where deleting a single dive in the divelist
resets the title to "Subsurface" only. clearUpEmpty() should only
call setTitle(MWTF_DEFAULT) if no file is currently open.
It also adds a safe-guard to revert back to MWTF_DEFAULT if
no file is open but setTitle is called with MWTF_FILENAME.

This patch attempts to fix the 'click goes to 0,0' bug on the
globe. it moves a bit of code around and I particulary don't
like the way that we are dealing with 'EditMode', I think I'll
refactor that for 4.1. We are alredy dealing with a bunch
of states, maybe a State Machine will help on removing code-complexity.

* uploading a zip file containing dives - untested
(the zip file must have been prepared elsewhere)
* downloading the dive list and the dive XML files
The networking part is finished, but it's missing the actual import of
the XML files sent by divelogs.de.

We add the "maximized" entry for the settings group "MainWindow",
and store it on close, so that the window state is the same on
the next run. But then also, we only store the window size and resize
to that size if not maximized. This attempts to preserve a "restored"
window size.

This patch remembers the trip selection across the Dive Tree Model.
It's a tiny bit big because we used to have a variable 'selected
trips' that's now calculed dynamically - this is more future proof.
This is a start of Un-cluttering the view ( for 4.1 I hope to reduce the
code in this class to nearly a half. )

When editing a dive and clicking save button on menu bar, it saved
dive information but didn't mark dive as not being edited anymore.
For closing file, user should always click on the save button on
the bottom of the page and then saving it.
Now when clicking save button on menu bar, it will call the
accept_changes before saving to disk.

Before, when clicking the OK button on the preferences GUI, we were
updating in-memory preferences from the GUI, saving them to the
configuration file from the GUI, reloading from the file to the
in-memory preferences. Then, to add to the ducplication, when the
application was exiting, some fields were saved again.
Basically the first step and the last step were useless appart from
the fact the the other steps where missing a few fields here and there.
This patch removes the first step and fixes the missing fields.

This is a bit painful, but we basically walk the samples and pick the
valid tank from the events. And then we do a simple discrete integration
to figure out the mean depth per tank and duration per tank. And then we
assemble all that into per tank statistics.
Strangely the value calculated here seems slightly higher than one would
expect from the overall SAC rate. This inconsistency should be
investigated a bit further, but my guess it it's based on the assumption
that the DC provided mean depth is possibly more accurate than what we can
calculate from the profile.

"quit". Also, we should consistently check for both editing or dive
addition. And lastly, we should use consistent language with commit

In the Gtk version there were no option to disable the showing of time
in the mouse over, so this removes that option to limit the amount of
clutter in the settings panel.

We previously did did bad things when running with an empty configuration.
This attemps to clean it. We will now correctly handle the splitters in
almost all cases ( if I didn't break anything on the way. )

This now offers the correct gases for which we have cylinders defined.
For both the planner and add dive we still don't end up with the correct
cylinders in the resulting dive. But that's for another commit to fix.

This is intended to allow the user to provide the gases / cylinders that
she will be diving with. With that information the planner can warn the
user about insufficient gases, but more importantly it can show relevant
gases in the gas select drop down.
Right now the add cylinder button doesn't add a cylinder - that's a
problem.

The user could add a dive, and in the middle click on the 'plan'
button. Since we didn't cared about that on the widget, a lot of
inconsistencies could occour. this fixes that by setting a flag
on the Planner, that has now three modes: nothing, plan and add.
(maybe in the future an edit mode will be valid too.)
If in 'NOTHING' mode, user can enter the addition, edition and
planning. If in any other mode, user can't do a thing. The mode
gets back to NOTHING when user accepts or cancels a plan / add
/ edition.

This is a try: when the user changes the orientation on the columns
by clicking on the title of them and organizing by something that's
not the number, we lost track of the opened branches. this commit
doesn't fix that, but it fixes a possible similar issue.

I basically rewrote the way we handled the splitters. It now uses a state
to know what it's doing, and will only update the value of the
saved-to-disk splitter size if the state shows the splitters (currently
only VIEWALL), where all the other states should hide the splitters, and
the values of the splitters don't matter.

Since the model name is written into the XML file it has to be a literal
string that isn't translated. Otherwise a datafile written in one locale
behaves differently when opened by Subsurface under a different locale.

This patch enables editing a dive that was manually entered,
it doesn't cover dive plans yet because on the plan I need to
figure out what are the 'user-entered' points, and what are
the algorithm point. and I feel lazy. =p
One last thing that's missing is to revert the dive to the
previous condition if the user cancels the edition, currently
canceling and applying ok is the same thing.

Implement exporting in UDDF format as was done in Gtk version. File menu

This tracks the autogroup state remembered in data files. Toggling the
checkable menu item causes the divelist to be marked as changed. This
might actually be untrue - but that's really hard to track so this is the
"better safe than sorry" approach.

This patch implements GUI for importing CSV log files. One is able to
configure what columns contain time, depth and temperature fields.
Pre-configured log applications currently included are ADP log viewer
and XP5. (Both of these use actually tab as separator, so the field
separator currently hard-coded.)

- replace the glib file helper functions

- comment out GPS string parsing (uses glib utf8 macros)
This needs massive cleanup, but it's a snapshot of what I have right now, in

Those preferences removed ( basically the ones about visibility of
the List View of the Table ) are now managed by the Qt Settings
system, and thus there's no need to have them there. wich gave us
a pretty good cleanup.

For a new installation, subsurface will now start on fullscreen,
this fixes the bug where subsurface would start using the interface
file ( mainwindow.ui ) configured size, and that silly monster
always changes when editing something.

The first time the user loads subsurface, the default_filename
is not configured yet, but yet the software tries to load "",
sending an error message that this file doesn't exists.

nice and simple three level dive. 25 minutes at 18m, 15 minutes at 9m, and
a safety stop.

This gets things mostly right.
It creates a dive and uses the planner widget to create samples which are
copied into the dive. It fills in some reasonable defaults (DC model,
timestamp), but doesn't allow editing the timestamp (or the temperatures
and air pressure).
On accept the planner gets reset and the dive appears correctly in the
dive list.
Cancel still needs to be handled.
And I bet there are many subtle bugs lurking here and there. But it's a
start.

This fixes a crash in the current Qt subsurface code that can happen
after downloading dives from a dive computer, and the new dives merge
with old dives, causing the old dives to be re-allocated into the
merged one.
In that case, the list widgets don't get fully updated, and contain
stale pointers to old dives that no longer exists. Doing anything that
refreshes the display will hide this problem, and you do need to have
multiple dive computers on the same dive to trigger it in the first
place, so it's reasonably hard to hit, but very annoying when you do.
This patch just makes us reload all the dive UI tables, which may be
overkill. It also doesn't actually fix the fact that we seem to do
"process_dives()" within the context of the downloader thread, which
looks like a possible source of races. The "process_dives()" should
also be moved to the main thread, but needs the preferDownloaded()
information that is part of the download window, so it doesn't fit
here. Somebody else (Tomaz?) will hopefully fix that part.

Plug the cancel action on the dive planner ( before that, only by
hitting the 'ESC' button things worked, so now you can also click
on the Cancel box that's on the right of the planner profile window.

The code to initialize the weight systems from the last datafile loaded
had not been brought over from the Gtk version.
We now correctly update the data structure when loading file (but not yet
when editing values).
Most likely the same needs to be done for the tanks as well.

The Command line execution of Subsurface happened before the
GUI was created, this leaded to various bugs by me(tm) over
time. This patch seems to fix all of those, by reusing the
same code for GUI interaction and CommandLine interaction.
I had to rework how the main.c worked, it used to be C code
calling C++ code, and this is non desirable, since C doesn't
really understand C++.
I Moved all of C-related code to 'subsurfacestartup.c/h' and
created a tiny wrapper to call it, so all of the C code is still
C code, and the new main.cpp calls the mainwindow->loadFiles and
mainWindow->importFiles to get rid of the bugs that happened before.

Added a new widget to control the DivePlanner, now we
have two widgets, a graphics one and a qt sidget based one.
the Technical divers will most likely use the QtWidget one
while the hobbists will most likely use the QGraphicsView
one. there's not a option to choose one, they both will
appear at the same time.

Looks like the QTextBrowser can't render the manual correctly.
Also, QWebView provides a better way to find contents on a webpage,
which is an important feature for an user manual (to be implemented).

PrintOptions is a QWidget class to be used as an
addition to a future print dialog (possibly based on
QPrintDialog). Currently only contains a couple of
radio buttons.
PrintDialog (printdialog.cpp/h) which is a basic QDialog
is currently added for testing only and it holds
an instance of PrintOptions.
Calling File->Print opens this test dialog for now.

While in zoomed mode and when resizing the splitters or
switching views the profile tooltip can end up being at the
wrong location and also the zoom state becomes corrupt,
so perhaps the entire transformation needs to be reset.
To prevent the bug we listen for relevent to the profile
splitter resize event, view changes and clear()/plot() the
entire profile graphics.
This is an slow/expensive solution and perhaps there are
cheaper alternatives e.g. updating only the scene rectangle
and tooltip, somehow.

Added the left / right shortcuts for moving the handlers around in time,
this also made me wonder why we have the 'previous dc' on the menu, it
got actually to broke my code on the shortcuts for the planner because
they are active everytime - should they be active only when the profile's
visible or they serve any other purpose?
If they serve only for the profile, I'll get them out of the menu and
put them in their proper place - the profile view.

Most child windows should be closed with the main application
window otherwise if left open and if making specific
modifictions could potentially cause a SIGSEGV.
To solve that we mark all custom windows/dialogs with
the Qt::WA_QuitOnClose attribute on instance creation.

1) Make a call mark_divelist_changed(TRUE) when the user adds new
cylinder or weight entries.
2) Call mark_divelist_changed(FALSE) in
MainWindow::on_actionClose_triggered() so that each time after
a file is closed or a new one is created it does not ask immediately
the user for a save confirmation for the blank file/divelist.
3) Call mark_divelist_changed(TRUE) once a dive's geo location
has changed in GlobeGPS::changeDiveGeoPosition().

There are a couple of problems with said icons:
- When the Equip. tab is first seen, no relative event is monitored
so that the correct position is updated and the icons are positioned.
To solve that we connect the signal MainTab::currentChanged(int)
and call MainTab::equipmentPlusUpdate().
- When the info-profile QSplitter resizes with a snap towards/from
the edges of the main window, no resize handler is called such as
MainTab::resizeEvent().
A solution is to monitor the resize of the info-profile splitter
with MainWindow::on_infoProfileSplitter_splitterMoved() and again
call MainTab::equipmentPlusUpdate()

If a file has been opened from the command line or via the File
menu the main window title becomes "Subsurface: filename.ext".
Title also updates if 'File->Save As' is called. "Subsurface" only
is displayed when no active file is present or post 'File->New'
or 'File->Close'.
To make this work a new public method is added - MainWindow::setTitle()
and also an enum type MainWindowTitleFormat, which should allow
more complicated formatting, such as showing the selected dives
or the total number of dives (e.g. MWTF_FILENAME_N_DIVES).

This data structure was quite fragile and made 'undo' when editing
rather hard to implement. So instead I decided to turn this into a
QMultiMap which seemed like the ideal data structure for it.
This map holds all the dive computer related data indexed by the model. As
QMultiMap it allows multiple entries per key (model string) and
disambiguates between them with the deviceId.
This commit turned out much larger than I wanted. But I didn't manage to
find a clean way to break it up and make the pieces make sense.
So this brings back the Ok / Cancel button for the dive computer edit
dialog. And it makes those two buttons actually do the right thing (which
is what started this whole process). For this to work we simply copy the
map to a working copy and do all edits on that one - and then copy that
over the 'real' map when we accept the changes.

Yearly stats are being displayed. the code is similar to the GTK one,
but I advise the reader that it's a bit risky ( I got an unreproducible
crash but it seems to be fixed now. ). The selection behavior is *weird*
and I have no idea why, but I'm very sleepy - will try to look at
it again tomorrow.

So, I changed a lot of code to reduce boilerplate on models in the
future. Currently we do not have a lot of models, but this can increase
quite rapdly. There's a second TreeModel in the works, the Yearly
Statistics, this patch will save around 250 LOC for this new model,
and more and more models will give us a greater saving.
Iwll do that for the table models in the future too - I did the tree
models now because they are the most complex case and I didn't wanted
to create a second tree model without this.

This code adds a Renumber Dialog, that's most a copy & paste
of the GTK visual, I didn't tried to do anything fance with it,
but I still dont like how it looks like. a better management
form is needed. :)
( Well, actually my dislike is mostly because it's on a menu
and it's on a popup, I think a 'toolbox' should exist to hold
all of those widgets that don't belong to the menu - will try
that later )

Fixed the show / hide dialog shortcuts to take the splitter into consideration,
So, here's the deal.
We have a few QSplitters that takes care of helping us with the
size of a few widgets, they are ok, and we should continue using them
to manage the visibility of them too. But the way that we did before was to
widget->hide(); something, and if you hided something using the splitter,
by holding it's handle and collapsing the widget, then you used the 'ctrl+number'
shortcut to show it, it whould only show a gray panel.
This patch makes everything behave using the splitters.

For consistency I didn't change the meaning of Ctrl-1/2/3/4 and added
this as Ctrl-5 - but one could just as easily make the argument that
"ViewGlobe" should be Ctrl-4 and "ViewAll" should be Ctrl-5.
This ensures that only one of the four widgets is shown in the
individual modes, but it doesn't address the drawing issues with the
profile.

Added a simple TextEditor in the graph for the 'Dive Plan' mode,
this text editor is very simple, so the user can double click on
'depth' or 'duration' to set the depth or duration of the dive.
Since this was a test, only 'duration' was done, and I'll add
duration on the next commit.

Ticket 127 mention that context menu is fixed on imperial mode, which is
partial true. Context menu only not have the changes on header model updated
when preferences are chenges during execution. Hard to note because if
program is closed and opened again, the context is initialized properly.
Since actions aren't bound to the header model, we need iteract of current
items and change the title.

Created a new dialog, Edit Divecomputer, it will currently only lists
the divecomputers that are used on the xml file. I used the same method
that the gtk version used, but only 2 divecomputers got visualized in the
dirk dive data. I'll assume that it's correct and will fix it in the next
couple of commits.

Don't call refreshDisplay() after preferences change. This strangely
somehow leads to a situation where I need to move the mouse over the dive
list before changes to the units are reflected.
When calling reload() do not force layout change / resort unless that is
the intention.

These changes should be correct - but they still don't fix the problem
that after we click 'OK' on the preferences (regardless of whether any
changes were made), the first dive is set as current dive and shown in the
map window.

The check to only update the dive if there were already dives selected
before seems bogus. I'm sure I put it there for a reason but it seems
flat out wrong.
This gets triggered when you select a trip by clicking on the trip
header. In that case all dives get unselected (amount_selected = 0) and
then we try to select the first dive in the trip - which fails because
of this check.

Things got broken. Again. We no longer kept track of the selected dives in
our structures which broke statistics.
This attempts to fix that, but appears to still have a bug when selecting
trips. Sometimes this results in 0 dives being selected according to our
data structures, while Qt happily shows all dives of the trip as seected.

This adds a helper function to determine the Subsurface data directory
(are we running from build directory? installed on Linux? installed on
Mac? - still need to add support for Windows). This same function is
then used by both the setup for Marble and for the help browser.
This assumes that the user-manual.html file has actually been built and
installed (which we don't do by default with the current Makefile).
Right now there are rendering issues with our manual in the help browser
widget - I'm sure this can be fixed...

Added a preliminary support for a manual display widget,
it's a very basic HTML text-browser, so it can have
hyperlinks, images and everything that a 1995 browser
has.
The long term plan is to subsittute this manual by
a more modern 'help' using QGraphicsView, that will
interact on the application level.

I think that displaying tissue loadings either as pressure or as
percentages is not very intuitive but that it makes much more sense when
translated to ceiling depths.
This change enables just that for the 16 tissues in our calculated ceiling
and visualizes this in the profile graph.
There is a checkbox in the preferences to turn this on. If enabled, all
tissues having non-trivial ceilings are also shown in the info box.

The download already worked, but we didn't display the new dives. This
introduces a new slot for MainWindow that updates what is displayed in
Subsurface after files were imported.
With this change we can successfully download ONCE - but when trying to
download a second dive the dialog doesn't appear to get refreshed the
right way - the OK button doesn't appear to work anymore (Cancel however
does).

Added the red dc ceiling as preference option.
Hooked them all up together so the sub-preferences are enabled when the
master preference is set (for 3m and red ceiling).
Use the options in the profile plotting functions.

The biggest problem here was that bool has different sizes in C and C++
code. So using this in a structure shared between the two sides wasn't a
smart idea.
Instead I went with 'short', but that caused problems with Qt being to
smart for its own good and not doing the right thing when dealing with
'boolean' settings and a short value. This may be something in the way I
implemented things (as I doubt that something this fundamental would be
broken) but the workaround implemented here (explicitly using 0 or 1
depending on the value of the boolean) seems to work.
I also decided to get rid of the confusion of where gflow/gfhigh are
floating point (0..1) and when they are integers (0..100). We now use
integers anywhere outside of deco.c.
I also applied some serious spelling corrections to the preferences
dialog's ui file.
Finally, this enables the code that selects which partial pressure graph
to show.

The imperial/metric super setting doesn't have any effect. But changing
the individual units now works and is tracked. And causes the display to
change after clicking "OK" (but not yet when clicking "Apply").

Several changes:
- split the reload of the DiveListView from the reload of the header
- don't include the column title in the name of the setting; the title
will change depending on the units and localization chosen by the user
- rename the slot that toggles visibility to make the code more readable
- use setCollumHidden() method to simplify the code
- don't save the width of hidden columns (as they would be saved as zero
width and can then no longer be enabled)

The "no dive location" message box was displayed above the marble
widget, which made the layout splitter move horizontally.
Made the message box as an overlay on the map instead.

Dirk asked me to try to make it more modern, so I
used as a base, the Firefox preferences. currently
it saves / loads the preferences, and also smits
a signal 'preferencesChanged' that should be connected
to anything that uses preferenes, via the PreferencesDialog::intance()
object. In the future, I plan to make it have a signal / slot for each
member that changes.
I also moved the icons to a new folder this time, because the
amount of icons is now more than just two, and it was
becoming messy.

Instead of passing pointers to GError around we pass just pointers to
error message texts around and use kMessageWidget to show those. Problem
is that right now the close button on that doesn't do a thing - so the
error stays around indefinitely. Oops.

This also changed a bit the behavior on how the QSettings are managed,
till now, we used the QSettings constructor passing the name of the
software and the 'company', but this is now default - so there's no
need to pass anything by the QSettings contructor.

Ordering here is important - we can't resize the columns before they are
created. On the other hand this now means that we explicitly need to
expand to the first dive shown.

This is the skeleton code for a non-blocking ui-thread
It already creates the first-thread ( 'do not block the ui' )
and the second thread ('download from the dive computer')
We can in the future merge both in the same place - I didn't
want to do that now because the download function is written
in the libdivecomputer.c code, and I cant just transform that
to a QThread and use signals, so I used two threads for that.

We want to give the user the option to 'cancel' and not exit the program,
to 'save' the file, or to say I'm 'OK' with losing the unsaved data.
This does NOT implement the actual save / save-as, yet.

This is to prevent loss of data, so if the user is editing something,
either cancel the edition or save it, to continue moving around on
the Dive List. - Only the dive list is affected, user can still
play with the globe and the profile.

Borrowed the code from KMessageWidget from Aurelian Gateau, Kdelibs,
to better show passive information and notifications. instead of a
popup blowing in the user's face, a nice, animated and well designed
widget will gracefully fade-in, show the notes, and fade out when
not needed anymore.

This patch fixes loading a second dive-file after the first
one had been loaded. it simply clears some information and
makes sure that the current selected dive is invalid when
the file closes. I also did a bit of code cleanup on this one
to make things simpler in the future.

Figure out what is our first selected element (in case we start out from a
multiple selection) and then move to the next logical element. So the code
traverses an expanded tree (from a trip 'down' to its first dive or 'up'
to the last dive of the previous trip - and similar from a first dive in a
trip 'up' to its trip and from a last dive in a trip 'down' to the next
trip.
This does not take 'shift-cursor-up/down' into account (i.e. manual
selection extension). Instead with just cursor up and down a single dive
(or single trip) is selected.
My guess is that the code will make someone's eyes bleed. Be warned.

If a user clicks on a trip, all the dives in a trip should be selected.
But if a user selects a range of dives that happens to have a trip header
in it, then only the range of dives should be selected (the trip header is
marked as 'selected' for visual consistency, even though not all dives in
this trip are selected).
This also changes the code to scrollTo the first selected dive instead of
just expanding the parent. This seems to give us a more pleasant visual
appearance (trying to keep the selected dive centered in the dive list)
and as a side effect no longer hides the first dive trip at program start
(before this change the first dive in the first trip would be the top
entry in the dive list, with its trip just out of sight above).

Establish some useful helpers and use them when updating the values.
One of the helpers (from statistics.c) puzzlingly doesn't link - so that's
ifdefed out.
Also had to re-arrange the settings reading code (it came too late) and to
extract the expanding code of the top dive from the settings reading code
(as it had no business being there to begin with).

So, this is what happens now:
Every tab should be populated from updateDiveInfo method, it will be
called whenever a new dive is selected
I'm already populating the 'notes' box to show how it can be done.
If you are unsure what's the name of anything, open the file maintab.ui on
the designer, click on the item and check its objectName, the access is
ui->objectName from here on.

Add shortcuts to match GTK version for view menu items and the log menu
so that e.g. Ctrl+1 selects the list view.
Remove debug statements from the view functions. Leave in place for
functions with no obvious actions yet coded.

This small patch adds a new class - ProfileGraphicsView
it's a QGraphicsView based class that will holds all
graphics-items for the plotting.
The setup is simple, just call ui->ListView->plot( dive ) ( that's
already a ProfileGraphicsView and magic will happen.
Since Im using a QGraphicsView , the size of the canvas doesn't
matter and I'm fixing it at 0,0,100,100. when a resize is done,
the resizeEvent will be called, fitting the scene's rectangle on
the view.

Now it correctly uses the existing helper functions and keeps our idea of
the selection consistent.
There is a small behavioral change compared to the Gtk code. Range
selections no longer have the last dive clicked on as selected_dive but
instead the dive with the highest index that was selected. I don't think
that is a major issue for anyone.

Auto-detect on first start and keep in settings afterwards. So if the user
resizes them, Subsurface remembers the correct sizes.
